Since introducing the innovative Beetle car with air-cooled engine about sixty years ago, Volkswagen has grown into one of the leading automotive manufacturers in the world. The original Beetle was produced for decades in several countries, and was sold in the United States until 1979. Today Volkswagen is the largest automaker in Europe, offering several models.
As their entry-level car, the Golf offers a lot for the money with standard power windows on both the three or five-door hatchback, powered by the same five-cylinder inline engine as the Jetta. The Golf was voted world car of the year for 2010.
The Jetta has been their best selling cars in the United States, and is plentiful in the used market. Jettas are available in different trim levels and powered by either a five-cylinder gasoline or a four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which meets the strictest anti-pollution requirements in all fifty states. Longer than the Jetta, the sleek CC four-door sedan replaced the Passat for 2011 as their largest car in the American market.
The Tiguan is the first compact SUV from Volkswagen, a four-door hatchback available in several trim levels, all powered by the same two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
For off-road luxury, the Touareg offers all-wheel drive with a choice of trim levels plus gasoline, diesel, and hybrid engines. The Touareg commands high prices in the used market.
